We are very pleased to announce our initiative to organize a Summer School for students from the Black Sea University Network (BSUN). The event will be hosted by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) and will take place during June 20 – June 27, 2018 at the Summer Camp of AUTh in Halkidiki, Greece.

The topic of the Summer School is:

“Innovative Concepts for the Sustainable Development of the Black Sea Region”

The event will be a unique opportunity to:

– Participate in a life-changing experience with students from many different countries

– Enrich your communication skills and knowledge taking advantage of professors from the international academic community

– Enjoy the beach and the summer time in the breath-taking area of Halkidiki!

A. Accommodation

The Summer School will be held at the Summer Camp of AUTh in Halkidiki, which is set in a pine forest next to a beautiful beach on the seaside area of Possidi, about 100 km south east of Thessaloniki.

Participating students will be accommodated pairwise (2 persons in each tent) in 4-persons size camping tents (tents will be provided and set up by the local organizers) or in dormitories (4 persons per room).

The Summer Camp of AUTh is a fully functional facility, with reception and information stand, restaurant, mini-market, library, cinema, beach bar, open-air areas and rooms for hosting the sessions and the seminars, Wi-Fi, as well as all the necessary health and safety personnel (doctor, infirmary, lifeguards) and security services. More information for the preparations that you need to make and the material you need to pack for serving your accommodation will be provided by the local organizers.

B. Agenda

The event’s agenda will include three diverse types of activities:

I. A Summer School, consisting of lectures in the following 4 thematic areas:

  1. Industry Innovation & Infrastructure
  2. Blue Economy, Water Research & Climate Change
  3. Space Technology for food security
  4. Sustainable Cities & Communities

AUTh will provide 2 ECTS for the participants.

II. Multinational interactive debates on the main issues discussed in the lectures.

III. A wide range of cultural, sports and recreational activities.

Official Language of the Event: English.

C. Submission of an Application and relevant procedures

Students have to fill up the relevant Application form (see below the attached pdf file) and to submit it by March 31, 2018 to bsun-summerschool2018@auth.gr.

Applicants will be notified by April 15, 2018 for the acceptance of their application.

Local organizers will announce the final program of the Summer School by May 15, 2018 in the webpage http://bsun2018.auth.gr/

D. Fees for participation

300 Euro (Tents)

350 Euro (Dormitories)

Payment methods will be announced.

The fees will cover:

– Participation in the Summer School

– Accommodation and full catering costs (3 meals per day) for the whole period

– Transportation from Thessaloniki to the camp on June 20, 2018 and return on June 27, 2018

Optional: A full-day long cultural historical excursion in Vergina Archaeological Site (www.aigai.gr/en) 35 Euro

All participants are responsible for covering travel costs from their home cities to Thessaloniki and other everyday expenses.
